The Head of Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has offered his condolences to the family of Major General (MG) Sulaiman Al-Abedi who died Tuesday morning.

Al-Sarraj said Libya lost one of its loyal sons who was very responsible and upheld the constants of patriotism in the toughest time Libya had seen.

Al-Abedi's family said the MG died of complications related to coronavirus.

MG Al-Abedi was one of the first prominent military officers to defect from Gaddafi's brigades and join February revolution in 2011. He was appointed the Chief of Staff from July to November in the same year.

He opposed Khalifa Haftar's Operation Dignity which started in 2014 and while living in his hometown of Tobruk, he continued to criticize Haftar. He moved Tripoli after the offensive led by Haftar on the capital and while there, he urged easterners to revolt against the warlord.
