The Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity has disclaimed responsibility for any shipment of internationally regulated medicines arriving at Libyan ports.
In its circular to pharmaceutical importing companies, the Ministry emphasized that any request to permit the distribution of internationally regulated medicine shipments imported without prior authorization from the administration will not be considered.
It noted that it had received correspondence from the Pharmacy Administration regarding requests to allow the distribution of such medicines after they were imported and arrived at Libyan ports without import authorization.
The Pharmacy Administration had previously issued conditions for the distribution of controlled narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to balance their availability for legitimate medical use while ensuring they are not abused.
According to the circular issued in February of this year, the regulations for distribution include conditions for their import and distribution in hospitals, specialized centres, private pharmacies, and private healthcare institutions.
