The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced on Tuesday the registration of 210,545 citizens in the voter registration system for the first phase of the municipal council elections, amounting to 60 councils, after the system closed last Saturday.
The HNEC indicated that among those registered were 149,233 men and 61,312 women, a number that exceeded expectations relative to the population of those municipalities. The HNEC added that it was keen to provide citizens of the targeted municipalities with the opportunity to register to participate in the electoral process by extending it for two consecutive periods of time, which achieved a remarkable turnout, saying this is evidence of the high level of awareness among the citizens of those municipalities of the importance of participation, exercising the right to vote, and choosing those who represent them in decision-making circles.
The HNEC said that it would publish the preliminary lists of the voter registry in the election centers in which voters registered over a period of three days, starting next Sunday, and everyone who registered must go to his election center to ensure that his name is included in the lists correctly, or notice that there is an error that requires to take action against him from the Commission, all he has to do is submit a request according to the form prepared for the "Objections and Complaints Committee in the Electoral Administration Office of the HNEC", within which the registered election center is located and which supervises municipal elections. Assistance can be sought from the Help Center and on 1441.
Responding to inquiries regarding the procedures that must be taken regarding any error contained in these lists or objection to another voter whose name appears in violation of the procedures specified for the electoral process.
HNEC concluded that these elections have a symbolic significance that goes beyond the peaceful transfer of power to consolidating the principle of sovereignty and national unity, the fate of which Libyans have been wondering for years, calling for adherence to this path, and proving that people have the right to have their say and decide their fate through a constitution that regulates all aspects of life.
