The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced the start of accepting applications for candidacy in the first phase of the municipal council elections next Sunday.
It also called on voters who have entered their names and data in the final voter registry to go to the polling stations with an identity document to receive their electoral cards, noting that the card issued for the municipal council elections is completely new and has nothing to do with the card issued for the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2021.
This came after the HNEC completed the voter registration and objections as well as judicial appeals stages. The HNEC urged those wishing to run for the municipal elections to review the candidacy guide, understand the electoral mechanisms and systems included in the executive regulations, and verify the validity of the documents submitted to the committees accepting candidacy applications in the branches and offices of the HNEC.
It stressed that it would cooperate with the relevant state institutions with some of the required documents to verify the accuracy of the information contained in applications, without hesitating to exclude any application that does not meet the conditions stipulated in accordance with the articles contained in Chapter 5 of the Executive Regulations.
