The House of Representatives (HoR) held its official session on Monday in the city of Derna, headed by Aqila Saleh, and attended by his two deputies, in addition to a number of members of the High Council of State.
Saleh opened the session with a speech in which he praised the steadfastness of the city of Derna and its people, describing the city as having won the battles of life, construction and hope, pointing to the efforts of its people in overcoming sorrows and destruction as well as achieving reconstruction milestones in record time. Saleh stressed the HoR's commitment to continuing to support the wheel of reconstruction and development.
In a speech delivered by the member of the House of Representatives for Derna, Entisar Sheneeb, she expressed her pride in the city hosting the House of Representatives session for the first time in its history, and described the event as a great honor for Derna and its people, adding that it is an indication of Derna's transformation into a center that brings together Libyan representatives from different cities and regions.
The session also witnessed interventions from members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, during which a unanimous vote was taken on a proposal to assign the Development and Reconstruction Fund to build a museum commemorating the storm and floods that struck the city.
The parallel government was also summoned to be questioned about its achievements during 2024 and its plans for 2025. The session concluded with an emphasis on the commitment to follow up on reconstruction and development efforts in Derna, with the session’s work suspended until a later date.
