The spokesperson for the House of Representatives (HoR), Abdullah Blehiq, announced that the HoR decided in its official session on Monday to appoint a new Prime Minister tasked primarily with forming a government to oversee presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.
Blehiq explained that the decision came after extensive discussions on the current situation in the capital, Tripoli, and the urgent need to establish a unified government to supervise the electoral process.
He added that the session concluded with several points, including the extension of the candidacy submission period for the post of Prime Minister by an additional two days to give others a chance to apply.
According to the statement, Blehiq noted that once the candidacy window closes and applications are reviewed, the candidates will be summoned to present their programs and work plans before the House. The HoR will then set a date to choose a new Prime Minister and task them with forming a cabinet to be presented for a vote of confidence.
He also mentioned that the session was adjourned and will reconvene later to review measures concerning the human and material damage suffered by citizens in Tripoli and to follow up on actions taken by the Attorney General in this regard.
