Audit

House of Representatives Speaker Aqila Saleh called for disregarding the decision issued by Mohamed Takala appointing a new head of the Audit Bureau to replace Khaled Shakshak.

In a letter addressed to the heads of the Supreme Judicial Council, Council of Ministers, Administrative Control Authority, Audit Bureau, National Anti-Corruption Commission, Central Bank Governor, and the Attorney General, Saleh deemed the appointment unlawful and in violation of the political agreement.

He stressed that such decisions should be issued by the House of Representatives as the legislative authority, and not by what he called a “consultative body.”

For his part, Khaled Al-Mishri warned against violating the Constitutional Declaration and what he described as the “complete chaos” resulting from bypassing its provisions or taking unilateral steps in light of Tekala’s decision.

In a statement, Al-Mishri said Tekala’s actions would only deepen divisions within sensitive and sovereign institutions and aggravate the crisis in the country, calling it an unsound and undisciplined approach.

Al-Mishri reaffirmed his recognition of Khaled Shakshak as the legitimate and sole head of the Audit Bureau, according to the Constitutional Declaration, urging all state institutions to adhere to this until both chambers reach an agreement on appointing a new head.

Mohamed Tekala had issued a decision appointing Ahmed Aoun as the new head of the Audit Bureau, who officially assumed his duties on Tuesday following the announcement.
