The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh said Monday that the HoR started to accept candidates’ paperwork for the position of the Prime Minister and the selection of the winning name to replace the current PM, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, will take place on February 08.
The spokesman for the HoR, Abdullah Blehiq, said the Monday session was for the briefing of the parliament’s roadmap committee regarding the results of its tasks, as the HoR decided that candidacy documents for the PM position would be accepted for a whole week to come, if they meet the requirements and the selection would be announced on February 08 after a February 07 hearing session for the candidates.
Blehiq said the roadmap committee will be informed to consult with the High Council of State and then report to the HoR one day before selecting the new PM, adding that the HoR would call on some foreign ambassadors to Libya and UN Secretary General’s Advisor Stephanie Williams not to intervene in domestic affairs and on the Public Prosecutor to probe the prevention of MPs’ plane from landing in Tripoli’s Mitiga airport.
Meanwhile, the Head of the roadmap committee Nasser Al-Deen Mahana said that technically; elections can be held in 10 to 12 months, adding that this period in the country needs a strong government that can work all across Libya and is essentially focused on securing elections.
