The National Commission for Human Rights has warned of the consequences that would result from any foreign military intervention in Libya under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

The Committee reaffirmed, in a statement Wednesday, that any military intervention framed in a counter-terrorism context and sent to Libya would be in vain and would worsen the situation, fuel the chaos, and stretch the political gaps and divisions in the Libyan scene, which all lead to a calamitous humanitarian situation and to deterioration of human rights that will be in a tight corner under the excuse of fighting terrorism, according to the statement.

“We’re afraid that some would use the war to get past their formidable opponents and to settle down tribal and political issues all in the name of fighting terrorism.” The statement continued.

The Commission concluded the statement by stressing the fact that only Libyans, once reconciled and united under the flag of their homeland, will be the ones who can bravely face terrorism under the national unity as well as under one social and political leading government.
