Human Rights Watch (HRW) urged what it described as “the army” to allow the trapped civilians in Ganfouda, Benghazi, to leave to a safe district.

The HRW said in a report that it had documented the killing of some people from six different families in air attacks on Ganfouda district, denouncing the siege aid by Khalifa Haftar’s forces on the civilians.

The report also denounced forcing mothers to abandon their children to remain alive, decrying as well treating civilian men and children as if they are fighters and calling on the “army” to stop prohibiting males aged between 15 and 65 from going out of Ganfouda.

“The presence of fighters nearby the civilians does not give the green light to the “army” to besiege the civilians and leave them in quest for food.” The HRW report added, indicating that Benghazi Shura Council used to distribute foods, which used to arrive by sea, to the people of Ganfouda before a maritime siege was slammed by Haftar’s forces.

“Civilians in Ganfouda are suffering from shortages of foods and medicines as well as outages of power.” The report stated, adding that there is only one doctor in the district, besides the inability of sending children to schools, which have been bombed.
