The member of the High Council of State, Abu Al-Kassim Igzait, said that there was no truth to the news circulating about holding two separate sessions, the first on Monday at the invitation of the Presidency Office, and the second on Wednesday at the invitation of the heads of the permanent committees of the High Council of State.
Igzait confirmed in a press statement that the HCS would hold one session on Wednesday, chaired by the oldest member, and it is expected to be in full quorum.
Igzait's statement came after the Head of the High Council of State, Mohammed Takala, called for a session on Monday in the conference hall at the Rixos Hotel. While his competitor for the presidency, Khalid Al-Mishri, also called to hold a session in the middle of the week without confirming the date and place of its holding.
The heads of the permanent committees of the High Council of State had previously called in a joint statement last Thursday to hold a general session, chaired by the oldest member and the youngest as rapporteur, in order to complete the elections of the remaining members of the Presidency Office on Wednesday, August 28.
The result of the election of the Head of the High Council of State, which took place two weeks ago, sparked controversy between supporters of Al-Mishri and Takala, as the former announced his victory as Head and the commencement of his duties, while the latter insisted on the invalidity of the result and called for repeating the second round of election.
