‎Indian authorities announced easing travel restrictions to Libya, after a travel ban was imposed on its citizens 8 years ago, explaining its new decision was taken after the "improved security situation in the country."

The Indian Foreign Ministry said that it had issued this announcement after a comprehensive assessment of the current security situation in Libya, indicating a decrease in the overall level of risk.

The Ministry added that the statement issued on May 23, 2016, which imposed a ban on Indian citizens traveling to Libya, was amended based on an assessment of the security situation. The ban was amended to an advice to avoid traveling to Libya except in necessary cases. It advised citizens to contact the Indian Embassy in Tripoli in emergency situations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity announced last July the reopening of the Indian Embassy in the capital, Tripoli.
