Bashagha (R) with the British Minister of State for Security James Brokenshire

The Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha has visited the United Kingdom to give a speech at the UK Parliament, where he has outlined that the Government of National Accord is defending Libya and its capital, Tripoli, for a civilian and democratic state that is aspired for by all Libyans despite the ongoing offensive by Khalifa Haftar's forces.

Bashagha hailed on Thursday at the UK Parliament the role of Britain in supporting the Government of National Accord in its war on ISIS in Sirte back in 2016, expressing his government's desire for more security cooperation with the UK.

He outlined the need for boosting the mutual relations between Libya and Britain, especially in security and trade and other fields that bring stability for all Libyans.

After his speech at the UK Parliament, Bashagha met with the British Minister of State for Security James Brokenshire and reviewed joint cooperation in security areas.

Bashagha told the Minister that Libya hails the role of the UK that firmly supports the Government of National Accord's efforts that aim to build a democratic state that gives democracy and freedom to all Libyans.
