The Illegal Immigration Fight Department (IIFD) at the Ministry of Interior has called the EU and the International Organization for Migration to adhere to their duties towards supporting Libya on illegal immigration.

In a statement issued on Monday, the IIFD demanded the embassies of neighbouring countries from which immigrants come to collaborate with the department to facilitate the deportation of immigrants to their countries.

The statement also called on local citizens to inform authorities about illegal smugglers, confirming that state authorities in charge of immigration file respect human rights and international law regarding when dealing with the immigrants.

Recently, the Libyan Coast Guard has rescued 470 illegal immigrants and recovered the bodies of seven others off the Libyan coast while trying to cross to Europe.

All illegal immigrants who were arrested or rescued are referred to special shelters in Tripoli, after receiving the necessary medical treatment, awaiting deportation to their home countries.
