The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity held an official ceremony on Sunday to launch an awareness campaign introducing the role of the Child and Family Protection Office and its divisions at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli. The campaign, held under the slogan “Safe Child. Safe Community,” was organized with the participation of several United Nations agencies operating in Libya.

The initiative is part of the Juvenile Justice Program supervised by the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), according to a statement published by the Ministry on its Facebook page.

The campaign focuses on raising awareness about the importance and role of the Child and Family Protection Offices and divisions affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, which were established based on decisions by the Acting Minister of Interior, Emad Al-Trabelsi. The goal is to strengthen child protection efforts and ensure the necessary care for children within the legal and human rights frameworks.

The campaign also aims to enhance community awareness of children’s rights, define the mandates of these offices and divisions in protecting children’s rights, prevent discrimination, and promote the principles of equality and respect for human rights.

The campaign launch ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, representatives of UN-affiliated international organizations, officials concerned with promoting community security, and representatives from the Office of the Minister of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, all of whom praised the Ministry’s efforts in protecting children and families.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to supporting children’s issues, enhancing child protection and care, and continuing cooperation with local and international partners to promote child protection and family empowerment.
