The Libyan Embassy in Rome announced that arrangements had been made with the Italian airliner "ITA Airways" to resume direct flights between the two countries on January 12.

It added that the Libyan Ambassador, Muhannad Younis, discussed with the company's Head of International Affairs, Giorgio Garbiglio, arrangements for the launching of the first flight from Rome Airport to Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli on January 12, with two flights per week at first, to be expanded in the future to include the rest of international airports in Libya.

The Libyan Ambassador stressed his cooperation to overcome any difficulties that ITA Airways could face while carrying out its work, noting that this step would contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.

He added that this meeting comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations and joint efforts to facilitate air traffic, which contributes to supporting economic and commercial cooperation between Libya and Italy.

Last September, the Government of National Unity announced the operation of the first official flights from Mitiga Airport in the capital, Tripoli, to the Italian capital, Rome, after a hiatus of about ten years due to the European ban imposed on Libyan aviation.
