The Italian Association "Osservatorio Cibernetico" has filed a criminal complaint to the Italian judicial authorities against Tobruk-based House of Representative member Ibrahim Zagaid for falsely accusing Italy of being behind the downing of Dignity Operation’s mi-35 attack helicopter.

The association denounced the accusations and said it had to respond to the aggressive and defamatory media campaign made by Zagaid - live on TV - without any proof.

“The Libyan MP was intentionally targeting the Italian authorities, prompting the crowds to protest against them, despite not having any evidence,” a statement by the association said.

According to the statement, Zagaid has endangered the safety of the Italian businessmen in Libya, especially after the recent bilateral trade agreements between the two countries.

“Zagaid will be considered guilty of hostile acts.” The statement reads.

The association noted that there is a party trying to sabotage Italy's peace efforts between the Libyan parties, thus jeopardizing the stability in Libya and the Mediterranean region too.

“The Association will ask all the necessary measures to be taken in order to stop these defamatory acts and to defend the Italian companies and citizens engaged in ensuring the economic, social and political ties between the two friendly countries, Italy and Libya.” The statement indicated.

Last week, Zagaid claimed to Jordan-based Libya Channel that an Italian frigate off Sirte coast had shot down the helicopter, killing all three pilots on board.

The Italian Embassy in Tripoli described the accusations as ridiculous and irresponsible.
