Italy and Ankara are ready to work together to help Libya conduct its elections and combat terrorism, Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said after talks in Ankara with Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday.
Tajani told a press conference that they also agreed to join efforts to tackle illegal immigration and find solutions to this phenomenon.
"Fighting illegal immigration is a strategic priority for our governments, also to stabilize Libya and the Balkans," Tajani wrote on Twitter.
He disclosed that the Italian and Turkish interior ministers will discuss the illegal immigration file together next week.
For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that achieving stability in Libya was a top priority for Ankara and Rome.
"Libya awaits solutions to the problems hindering the holding of elections," Cavusoglu added as he stressed the importance of completing the constitutional path.
