The Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani described the Libyan situation as complex, saying that Rome wants to be a linking point where it can bring the conflicting parties back into dialogue so that elections can be held in the near future.

Tajani added at a conference at the Louis Diplomatic Forum in Rome that it is possible to solve the Libyan issue if Libyans also manage to bring Turkey and Egypt together around an ideal dialogue table, in addition to involving Qatar and the UAE.

Tajani said he hoped that Libya would become a partner to Italy and Europe in fighting immigration and in energy supplies, according to the Italian news agency AKI.

Tajani presented to the UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily a proposal for a “Libyan Sovereignty” charter that aims to establish a unified front of the main international parties to support the UN mediation.
