Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will participate in the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum that the Government of National Unity is going to hold in Tripoli next Wednesday.
The Italian Cabinet said in a statement that Meloni will travel to participate in the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum, a conference on combating illegal immigration, according to a report by the Italian Nova news agency, on Friday. Meloni is going to be accompanied by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, according to the agency.
Meloni visited Libya on May 7 and met in Tripoli with the Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi. She also visited Benghazi and met with Khalifa Haftar.
Nova news agency has indicated that the forum seeks to ensure integrated coordination under one focus among the countries of origin, transit and destination of immigrants.
Last Tuesday, the Minister of State for Communications and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, met with the Maltese ambassador to Libya, Charles Saliba, and the Italian Deputy Ambassador, Riccardo Villa, to discuss the necessary preparations for the success of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum, in which a number of African and European countries will participate.
