The Slovakian diplomat, Jan Kubis has been officially appointed as the new Libya envoy by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, who said the envoy will start his job next February.

The appointment was hailed by Turkey, whose Foreign Ministry issued a statement Tuesday saying that Kubis, who was a Foreign Minister in Slovakia, had been tasked with so many critical missions by regional and international organizations.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry added that Kubis, given his experience, has the required qualifications to add his positive vision to the efforts aiming at resolving the Libyan crisis, adding that Ankara will provide the needed support for Kubis in his quest to establish peace and stability in Libya.

Meanwhile, Italy's Foreign Ministry also welcomed the appointment of Kubis as a new Libya envoy by Guterres, saying his appointment goes in line with the UN-led efforts for establishing peace and stability in Libya.

The Italian Foreign Ministry added in its statement that Minister Luigi Di Maio hailed the acting envoy Stephanie Williams for her contribution to the solution of the Libyan conflict via different kinds of dialogue.
