Khalifa Haftar has requested Russia to supply him with weapons and military equipment, Sputnik, a Russian news outlet, has reported.

The renegade General's special envoy Abdul-Basit Al-Badri arrived in Moscow on Tuesday and asked Russian officials to end arms embargo on Libya and begin supplying weapons to Khalifa Haftar's self-proclaimed army.

Al-Badri, who also serves as Libya's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and handed him a message from Khalifa Haftar asking for arms and ammunition, in addition to military equipment and warplanes.

"He (Haftar) asked Moscow to start an anti-Islamist military operation in Libya that is similar to the one in Syria," Sputnik quoted Russian newspaper Izvestia as saying.

"We do not want "Muslim Brotherhood" on Libyan soil, and will not allow anyone from this group to remain in Libya. We will not retreat until we finally deal with them and "Al-Qaeda," which is a branch of "Muslim Brotherhood." Russian State Duma member Anvar Makhmutov said.

Haftar visited Russia in late June, discussing a number of issues, including weapons deliveries, with Russia's Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

Meanwhile, local sources said a Dignity Operation military cargo aircraft arrived in the mountain city of Zintan in western Libya on Tuesday delivering weapons and ammunition to the Zintani militia groups as part of the military build-up to attack the capital.
