The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Koury, said on X that over the past two days, she spoke with Khalid Al-Mishri and Mohamed Takala separately about the 6 August vote dispute of the High Council of State.

Koury explained that she had emphasized the need for a solution to maintain the unity of the High Council of State against any further divisions of institution in Libya.

The dispute between Al-Mishri and Takala occurred during the second round of the Council presidency elections, when the session’s rapporteur announced that Takala had obtained 68 votes against 69 votes for Al-Mishri, and then a discussion took place about the legality of a member voting after writing Takala’s name on the back of the ballot paper.

Al-Mishri then announced that he would begin his work as Council's Head from the headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, on last Monday, calling on Takala to resort to the judiciary if he had an objection to the election results.

Takala responded to Al-Mishri and accused him of storming the headquarters, saying that he had taken control of “the Council’s headquarters in a manner that does not resemble democracy,” considering this a method that could threaten the unity of the Council and its work in the next stage.
