‎The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation Ali Al-Abed revealed that some directors of public offices in the east and south were threatened with arrest if they attended the activities of the fourth forum of directors of labor and rehabilitation offices in Tripoli.

Al-Abed added during his speech at the forum that the threats that prevented the directors of the offices from attending were issued by security agencies and coincided with the preparations for the February 17 celebrations.

Al-Abed said that the figures of foreign workers available to the ministry indicate the presence of 3 million foreign workers, noting that they must be subject to the laws in force in the country. He explained that the majority of foreign workers entered the country illegally; which poses a security risk to them and pressure on the services provided to citizens.

Al-Abed pointed out that the presence of foreign workers within residential neighborhoods poses a danger and increases the crime rate, stressing that the ministry is working to provide residential complexes outside the cities for workers unaccompanied by their families and oblige them to settle their legal statuses.

He also pointed out that the "Wafed" platform aims to establish a database for foreigners in the country, bring in legal workers, and combat smuggling. Al-Abed said that foreigners' contracts will become electronic on the "Wafed" platform, adding that tax revenues will be enhanced and the minimum wage will be applied.

The activities of the fourth forum for directors of labor and rehabilitation offices were launched on Sunday with the wide participation of experts and specialists, in the capital, Tripoli; to discuss the technical and financial problems and obstacles facing the offices, in addition to discussing the conditions of foreign workers.
