Vice President of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdullah Al-Lafi, said that he is communicating with the areas that refuse to participate in the elections to persuade them to reverse their decision.

According to Al-Lafi's media office, the PC vice president reviewed the matter with the UN envoy to Libya Jan Kubis on Wednesday, explaining that they discussed the position of some regions that declared they would not take part in the elections next December, in protest to the candidacy of some controversial figures.

"The PC vice president emphasizes the right for any Libyan citizen who finds himself able to contest the elections to run for office without exclusion unless legal barriers are preventing him from doing so."

Al-Lafi met with security and military formations from various regions and reassured them that the elections would run as scheduled.

Meanwhile, Kubis commended the efforts to ensure that the elections proceed on time, according to the mechanism established by the High National Elections Commission, stressing the UN mission's continued support for all steps that contribute to achieving stability in Libya.
