Libyan Crime Watch (LCW) organization has denounced the arbitrary arrest of journalist Ikram Rajab by Haftar's internal security forces in Benghazi.
The organization clarified that Ikram's arrest, which took place on Wednesday, occurred after she left her home in Al-Salmani district, where she had contacted her family before her arrest.
Ikram had also posted on her Facebook account, mentioning that she was being followed by cars belonging to the internal security apparatus, before communication was cut off, and the post was deleted.
The organization further revealed that a day after Ikram's arrest, Haftar's militias attacked her family, storming their home at gunpoint, assaulting a child, intimidating women, and seizing personal belongings of the victim.
LCW held the authorities in eastern Libya fully responsible for the safety of journalist Rajab and for any violations or crimes she may be subjected to during her detention. It also called on the authorities in eastern Libya to immediately disclose Rajab's fate and ensure her safety, urging her unconditional and immediate release.
The organization urged the Attorney General to open an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances of her arrest and the violations against her and her family, ensuring accountability for those responsible.
Meanwhile, social media users circulated news of Ikram's death during interrogation by Haftar's internal security apparatus, though this has not been officially confirmed.
