An official delegation from the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated as an observer in the Second Regional Conference of Senior Officials on “Promoting a Collaborative Approach to the International Protection of Vulnerable Persons along Migration Routes,” which is being held in The Hague, Netherlands, from 25 to 27 June.
The Conference, organized by the European Union Agency for Asylum, focused on strengthening cooperation between European and North African countries to find the best ways to provide protection for unaccompanied minor immigrants.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of Libya’s participation in this conference, which comes within the framework of its interest in the phenomenon of asylum and immigration and Libya's monitoring of the issue regionally and internationally. The Ministry indicated that, although Libya considers unaccompanied foreign children entering its territory illegally as illegal immigrants, it deals with them according to a humanitarian perspective based on the international treaties and agreements it has ratified, especially Law No. (5) of 1997 regarding the protection of childhood.
Representatives of Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Malta, the Czech Republic, and Denmark participated in the conference, which was organized in cooperation between the governments of the Netherlands and Egypt. Also in attendance were representatives of specialized United Nations agencies and the European Union Agency for Asylum.
