illegal migration

Libya participated in the quadripartite coordination meeting with Tunisia, Algeria, and Italy on illegal immigration, held in the Italian city of Naples. The meeting aimed at continued regional coordination to combat human trafficking, illegal immigration, and transnational crimes.

The acting Minister of Interior in the Government of National Unity, Emad Al-Trabelsi, attended the meeting on Friday, alongside Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, according to a statement by the ministry.

The participants discussed mechanisms to strengthen cooperation among the four countries on illegal immigration by intensifying security and field coordination between the relevant authorities. This, they noted, would contribute to enhancing regional security and curbing migration-related phenomena and the crimes associated with them.

They also emphasized the importance of reinforcing cooperation between countries of origin, transit, and destination, and activating channels for intelligence sharing to pursue criminal networks involved in organizing illegal immigration and human trafficking.

The ministers further stressed the need to develop joint operational mechanisms and exchange expertise, particularly in the fields of combating organized crime and illegal immigration.
