Syria

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed solidarity with the Syrian people following significant political changes in Syria.

In a statement, the ministry reaffirmed Libya’s support for the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom and justice, describing the developments as the culmination of years of struggle against oppression.

The statement emphasized the importance of building a democratic state that ensures justice for all and supports the safe and dignified return of refugees and displaced persons.

Meanwhile, Libya’s Fatwa House extended congratulations to Syrians for what it called the end of one of modern history’s most oppressive regimes.

It commended the resilience of the Syrian people, celebrated the return of displaced individuals, and urged them to remain united and safeguard their “hard-earned” victory.

Syrian rebels have overthrown President Bashar al-Assad following a swift offensive that saw major cities fall from government control within two weeks, culminating in the capture of the capital, Damascus, on Sunday.

The revolution, which began in 2011 with a crackdown on anti-government protests, had seen little change in the front lines for years until the recent large-scale rebel assault.

President Bashar al-Assad, along with his family, has fled to Russia.

The conflict has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands and forced millions more to flee their homes.
