Sweden has placed itself in the crosshairs after permitting an extremist to burn a copy of the Holy Quran in Stockholm.
A far-right politician, in police presence, set fire to a copy of the Islamic holy book in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm on Saturday, prompting wide condemnation from the Arab and Islamic worlds.
The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement on Sunday Libya's condemnation of the Swedish government, describing the act as a blatant challenge to religious sanctities and a provocation to the feelings of Muslims throughout the world.
"Such extremist acts fuel hatred and violence and threaten peaceful coexistence. They also undermine calls for spreading the values of tolerance and coexistence," a readout by the ministry said.
The statement called on the international community to shoulder their responsibilities in facing Islamophobia.
