Saleh-Mishri

Libyan and Egyptian sources have speculated that Aqila Saleh, Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, arrived in Cairo on Saturday on an unannounced visit, at the invitation of the Egyptian authorities, according to the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

The newspaper quoted sources close to Saleh as saying that the latter is to meet the Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri, who reportedly arrived in Cairo on Friday evening.

The HCS has denied the news about Cairo's meeting and said it was baseless.

However, according to Egyptian and Libyan sources, the two men will discuss under the Egyptian auspices the upcoming meeting of the (6 + 6) committee formed by the two councils, though no official statement of such meetings has emerged as of yet.

Analysts say that Cairo's move is a new bid to break the deadlock between the two councils assigned to complete the legislation for the long-awaited elections in the country.
