The attorney general has revealed that 228 candidates in the second round of municipal elections are facing criminal charges, including murder, abuse of power, and corruption.

A total of 4,214 candidates are contesting the elections, with the high national elections commission requesting their criminal records. The prosecution’s database identified cases ranging from serious crimes to misdemeanors.

The list includes five murder cases, 16 related to abuse of power, and eight linked to public fund misappropriation.

Other charges involve illegal weapon possession, document forgery, and drug-related offenses.
