The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio met Wednesday in Tripoli and discussed the importance of returning to the political process and rejecting the negative foreign interventions in Libya.

The media office of Al-Sarraj said in a statement that the two officials had reiterated the need for the resumption of the UN-led political process and the rejection of the negative foreign interventions as well as bilateral relations and cooperation.

Al-Sarraj also thanked Italy for the assistance in detection of mines that were planted by the "aggression militias" in southern Tripoli, according to the statement.

They also talked about the shutdown of oil production and exports, expressing the need for reopening them as they are the main source of income for all Libyans.

The meeting saw discussions about EU's Operation IRINI as Al-Sarraj reiterated the need for the naval mission to be comprehensive in the sea, on land and in the air.

The meeting also reviewed the issue of illegal immigration and the efforts to confront the outbreak of the Coronavirus amid the cooperation between Libya and Italy.
