Libya and Kuwait have agreed to activate the joint committee for higher-level talks, in abeyance since 2010, Minister of Foreign Affairs Najla Al-Manqoush, confirmed.

In a joint press conference, with her Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah, in Tripoli, Al-Manqoush expressed a desire to develop bilateral ties, clarifying that talks included reopening the Kuwaiti embassy and resuming flights.

"We agreed to boost investments in the private sector and support meetings between businessmen from both countries, besides cooperation in a variety of domains, including the health field, education, culture, security, and food security,"  Al-Manqoush said.

For his part, the Kuwaiti minister reiterated that both countries share identical views on regional and international issues, stressing the importance of activating all international resolutions related to the Libyan crisis.

The Kuwaiti top diplomat conveyed the best wishes of his government to the new authorities in Libya as they steer the country towards elections in December in line with an UN-backed deal led by the Libyans.

 Sheik Al-Sabah also called for further talks in Kuwait to discuss the Libyan-Kuwaiti joint committee.
