Ras Ajdir

The ministries of interior and transportation have announced the launch of a new international land transport project aimed at improving cross-border travel to neighbouring countries.

The initiative, led by the Government of National Unity (GNU), seeks to provide safe and comfortable bus services as part of a broader strategy to modernise Libya’s ground transport network and promote collective travel.

According to a statement released via the government’s digital platform, the initial phase will operate through two companies—Al-Mada and Al-Sahm.

The service is designed to streamline the travel experience with direct routes, minimal road stops, and dedicated fast-track lanes at border crossings, particularly at Ras Ajdir.

Officials say passengers will benefit from an expedited journey, with simplified procedures both upon departure and return. Facilities will be available at every stage—from boarding in Libya to final arrival abroad, and vice versa.

A high-level meeting bringing together officials from both ministries, border security, customs, and passport services was recently held at Ras Ajdir. A technical meeting scheduled for Monday is expected to finalise the launch date of the first trips.
