The Libyan mission to the United Nations has participated in the 3rd Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction, held at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.

In a speech at the opening session of the conference, the Minister Plenipotentiary of the mission, Issam Omran, welcomed the ongoing negotiations for a binding agreement that would make the Middle East a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, whether chemical or biological, according to a statement by the mission posted on its Facebook account, Friday.

He also reaffirmed Libya's consistent policy in support of efforts to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, and its position through its accession to international conventions related to the non-proliferation, possession, manufacture and elimination of such weapons.

However, Omran noted the right of all countries to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and the encouragement of peaceful and safe uses of atomic energy; In order to contribute to the development of the peoples of the region.
