Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush and her Serbian counterpart Nikola Silakovic on Sunday signed a memorandum of cooperation in diplomatic cadres development.

The agreement paves the way for joint work between the Serbian Diplomatic Academy and Libya's Institute of Diplomatic Studies to create skilled diplomatic cadres, according to a statement by Libya's Foreign Ministry on Facebook.

Al-Manqoush arrived Sunday in Serbia as the first top Libyan diplomat to visit Belgrade after 15 years. The Libyan delegation was received by FM Silakovic at the airport.

Al-Manqoush discussed preparations for reopening the Serbian Embassy in Libya to carry out its duties from Tripoli. The Serbian diplomatic mission is currently functioning from the neoghbouring country Tunisia.

The two sides reviewed prospects for enhancing cooperation in energy, economy, health, and education, as well as the political and economic situation in the Balkans and elsewhere.

FM Silakovic reiterated his country's support for the efforts of the Government of National Unity in imposing security and stability, leading to presidential and parliamentary elections according to a sound constitutional basis, to fulfill the aspiration of the Libyan people, a statement by Libya's Foreign Ministry said.

As part of strengthening relations and bilateral cooperation between Libya and Serbia, Al-Manqoush expressed Libya's endeavor to establish a day for Libyan-Serbian friendship according to the oldest document in the archives of the two countries.
