The Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes in Gaza.
This came in a statement delivered by Mohammed Abu Snena, the mission's advisor, at the United Nations Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs, in which he expressed Libya's concern about the ongoing violations in the occupied Palestinian territories over decades.
The statement has also described what is currently happening in Gaza as an "unprecedented humanitarian tragedy", denouncing the double standards practiced by some countries in dealing with human rights, and their presentation of political justifications that contradict the most basic humanitarian principles.
It further expressed its regret over the continued denial of the right of developing countries to development, calling for reforming the international human rights system to be more just and effective, away from selectivity and double standards.
Libya reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights at the national and international levels, stressing the importance of respecting human dignity and freedom as well as protecting them from any exploitation or abuse.
