Libya has decided to withdraw its candidacy for membership in the Peace and Security Council (PSC) at the African Union (AU) for the 2022-2025 term, and to relinquish it in favour of Morocco, Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush said Sunday.

Al-Manqoush told her Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita during a phone conversation that Libya will officially inform the AU Commission of its intention to support Morocco's candidacy for this mandate.

Bourita responded by affirming his country's support for the Libyan government and institutions and its efforts to hold elections and reach a definitive solution to the country's crisis.

The two ministers agreed on the need to give a strong impetus to the Community of Sahel and Saharan Organization and for its institutions' return to function from their official headquarters.
