Military sources from the Libyan Army under the command of the Presidential Council (PC) have confirmed shooting down a MIG 23 for Khalifa Haftar's Air Force in Qasir Benghashir in southern Tripoli, saying the pilots had ejected themselves and search operations are still ongoing.

The sources added that the aircraft took off from Watiya airbase in western Tripoli, saying the Air Force of the PC targeted Sunday the airbase.

Videos on social media showed the moment the aircraft was hit and the pilots descending in parachutes.

On Saturday, the spokesman for the Volcano of Rage operation Mohammed Gununu said their forces would be attacking rather than defending themselves from the forces of Haftar, saying this would take effect as they had secured the outskirts of Tripoli from the south.

"From southwestern Tripoli to Sawani, to Wadi Rabea, and to Ain Zara, the forces have either secured the areas fully or will do so in no time." Gununu said Saturday.

Haftar's forces, which came from eastern Libya, are positioned in Gharyan west of Tripoli as 9th brigade forces, loyal to Haftar, come from Tarhouna toward Wadi Rabea and Qasir Benghashir.
