The Libyan authorities have released Tuesday the 54 Tunisian fishermen who were arrested by the Libyan coastguards inside the Libyan territorial waters.
Tunis Afrique Press confirmed the release news earlier after contacting the brother of one of the freed fishermen who said he received a call from their lawyer confirming the release.
The head of consulate affairs at the Libyan Foreign Ministry, Beleed Nawara, hailed the release verdict that was delivered by the court regarding the Tunisian sailors, adding that another verdict will be delivered to release their boats so that they can return home aboard them.
On November 15, the Libyan navy intercepted three boats with 54 fishermen onboard after entering the Libyan territorial waters illegally. They were later sent to Al-Zawiya and then to Tripoli, where they went through interrogation. After that, they were returned to be tried at Al-Zawiya courthouse, which freed them Tuesday.
