The Libyan authorities have decided to close Ras Ajdair border with Tunisia over the repeated assaults on Libyan travelers by Tunisian citizens, who are pissed off about the fees they have to pay to enter Libya.

A source from the border said that a group of smugglers from Ben Gardane district are vandalizing Libyan cars and attacking Libyan travelers in Al-Zikrah area. It added that they are hindering the trucks and ambulances from passing through, despite the presence of the Tunisian police and army on the Tunisian side of the border, who did nothing to protect the Libyan travelers, according to the source.

The source indicated that the Libyan authorities have decided to shut down the border from its side until the governments of the two countries take serious measures to protect the Libyan travelers to and from Tunisia.

It is worth mentioning that a huge number of Libyans, who returned from Tunisia, complained over the last days about being subjected to uncomfortable treatment on the road, whether verbal or by action – such as vandalizing of cars and personal belongings - because of a protest by Ben Gardane district over strict entry measures taken by Libya.
