The Constitution Drafting Assembly has called on all national and international bodies to respect its inherent competence in preparing and drafting the permanent constitution for the country, as stipulated in the Constitutional Declaration and the provisions of the Libyan judiciary.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Assembly urged national and international bodies not to attempt to exceed its legal mandate in this regard, calling on the concerned countries and the international community to respect the sovereignty of the state and to stand by the will of the Libyan people expressed by their election to the Constituent Assembly.

It also stressed that the Libyan people alone have the right to decide on the conclusion of its work of drafting constitution, confirming that it will fully coordinate with the competent legislative authority regarding the completion of the remaining stages of the constitutional process, according to the statement.

The statement came in response to the final statement of the Paris Conference on Libya held Friday in Paris, which called on the next legislative authority, upon its election, to focus on drafting a permanent constitution for the country that is acceptable to everyone in different parts of Libya.
