Libyan dates have once again taken top honours at the 5th Cairo International Date Festival, winning the award for the best fresh dates for the third year in a row.
Two Libyan companies, Al-Waha and Sons of Al-Sanusi from the Waddan region, shared first place, each securing three gold medals for their Halima, Barmeel, and Deglet Nour Majhool date varieties.
Sons of Al-Sanusi also claimed second place in both the best fresh date and best Majhool date categories.
The festival, featuring 60 exhibition stands, showcased a diverse selection of dates from across the region, with participants from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, and Sudan.
Libyan producers expressed their pride in the achievement, highlighting Waddan’s reputation for cultivating some of the world’s finest dates and celebrating their role in representing Libya on the international stage.
