The Head of the Libyan-Italian Joint Room and Head of the Libyan General Directorate of the Coast, Colonel Tariq Shanbor, and an accompanying delegation arrived in Rome, Italy on Tuesday to discuss with the Italian authorities the activation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) about stemming the flow of the illegal immigrants from Libya to Europe.

"The visit comes in coordination with the EU administration at the Foreign Ministry as well as the security and military authorities that are relevant to fighting of the phenomenon of illegal immigration and it aims at completing the Libyan-Italian discussions that were held last month in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Libya." Shanbor told the media office of the UN-proposed government.

He explained that the MoU has gotten several points that need further clarification from the Italian side, especially in regards to the support and training as well as the activation of the work at the joint room that is supervised by the Libya Coast Security Department.

"We will discuss the issue of the Libyan boats of the Navy Force that are being repaired in Italy and will be given back to Libya by the end of April so that they may help cut off the waves of illegal immigrants and smuggling." Shanbor added.

Meanwhile, Libya Coast Security Department sent 18 officers and engineers to Italy to receive a theoretical course for a month on the 106 Libyan boat. After that, the Libyan trainees will be given a training program for another month to get to know how to drive the under-repair Libyan boat in Benzart port, Tunisia, which will return to Libya in May to help crackdown on oil-smuggling and drugs ships.
