The embassy added on Twitter that the committee is committed to reach an agreement with a coalition of firms handling the "sector 1" project from Imsaad to Al-Marj town in order to start work as soon as possible.

"This big progress confirms the commitment of Libya and Italy to implement infrastructure projects that are of strategic importance to both countries as per the joint agreements." The embassy added.

The implementation of the project is part of the compensations stipulated in the Libyan-Italian Friendship and Partnership Treaty signed in 2008.
