Libyan Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, met in Tripoli on Thursday with General Michael Langley, Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), and Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy Jeremy Berndt, as well as a number of military leaders, in the presence of the Undersecretary of Defense for Regions and Military Affairs, the Chief of the General Staff, and the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs.
Langley discussed concerns of the United States regarding the threats surrounding Libya due to the deterioration of the security situation in a number of regional countries and the instability experienced by the Sahel countries due to the presence of forces with suspicious movements, in addition to the need to unify military and security efforts inside Libya to confront these challenges.
Dbeibah welcomed cooperation with the United States and the unification of security and military efforts in Libya to confront any actions aimed at destabilization, stressing the need to work seriously with local and international parties to secure the borders in southern Libya and eliminate suspicious movements, as the two parties considered this work an extension of cooperation to confront terrorism.
The meeting also discussed the training programs proposed by AFRICOM for military units headed by the General Staff with the aim of raising the efficiency of the Libyan army.
