The Director of the Production at the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) Kamal Daw said the network production is now 5200 megawatts and Libya's consumption is 8050 megawatts, leaving the country with a 3000 megawatts deficit.
Daw told the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah in a meeting that they had spent 66% of the funds allocated to maintenance within the emergency budget, saying generation units with a capacity of 470 megawatts joined the network and that some firms started work before registering the letters of credit for the process.
"Ubari power plant will need 53.000 barrels of crude oil a day when it starts operating and its first unit will be operational in 10 days. 300 megawatts are now ready to use at Ubari power plant but there is a problem with Fajij pipeline which isn't finished for a length of 70 km, thus what we use now is 250 megawatts only." He said.
Dbeibah criticized the board of directors of the GECOL, saying they had let him down after he put in them a lot of hope, asking for a solution to the outage of electricity in the country, and giving the GECOL board of directors two weeks to resolve the outage and load shedding problems.
