The Government of National Unity (GNU) confirmed that it derives its legitimacy from the Libyan Political Agreement included in the Constitutional Declaration, and is committed to its outcomes, which stipulated that the government would end its duties by holding presidential and parliamentary elections.

The GUN said in a statement published by Hakomitna media platform in response to the decisions taken by the House of Representatives on Tuesday that "Aqila Saleh met with a number of members who had occupied their seats for a decade and a half, to announce during this meeting a series of decisions that are repeated in form, content and means."

"The HoR Speaker and the members who are around him insist on holding sessions that are not complete in quorum and are not characterized by integrity and transparency, abandoning their obligations toward the political agreement and the constitutional declaration, as well as their pledges to the political parties, through their repeated announcements that they are withdrawing confidence from the government and appointing a parallel government that has no tangible effect."

The Government of National Unity considered these decisions, which do not change the reality at all, to be statements and positions issued by a political party struggling to extend the years of its benefits and salaries for the longest possible period, not by a legislative authority that represents the entire country and establishes the principle of peaceful transfer of power.

The GNU has confirmed that it deals with these repeated statements as a non-binding political opinion, and a form of freedom of expression for one of the political parties, which it believes in and guarantees for all parties and citizens alike.
