The Grand Mufti of Libya, Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani, has called on Libyan authorities to reject European requests to resettle irregular migrants in the country.

Speaking on his weekly program, Islam and Life on Al-Tanasuh TV, he warned that such a move could lead to instability and pose serious security, moral, and economic risks.

Al-Gharyani criticized European nations for preventing African migrants from entering their territories while pressuring Libya and other countries to accommodate them.

He accused European governments of abandoning migrants at sea, leaving them to perish, while simultaneously demanding Libya take responsibility for them.

The Mufti also condemned Khalifa Haftar and his forces, saying that they have facilitated human trafficking by opening Libya’s southern borders to smugglers.

He called for international sanctions against those involved in the trade and urged Libyan authorities to take strict action against perpetrators.

The Grand Mufti stressed the need for Libya to enforce immigration laws, requiring entry visas and legal sponsorship for foreigners. He insisted that undocumented migrants should face deportation in accordance with Libyan law.
